Washing Machine Size Requirements for Rosa

Our rugs are compatible with most standard washing machines, but just to be safe, here are a few guidelines:

You do need a rug pad
Here's why

Why You Need a Rug Pad

While we recommend a rug pad for all rugs, they’re especially important for flatweaves, whose slim profile requires extra padding.

A rug pad prevents unwanted bunching and sliding, adds a subtle lift, and gives your rug a more cushioned feel underfoot.

Our rug pads are made of recycled felt and natural rubber, whereas lesser rug pads’ thin, sticky web can damage your flooring.

Moisture and mildew resistant, a rug pad stops dirt and grime from settling in your rug’s fibers.

The right rug pad

A must-have for flatweaves and other lower-pile pieces, a rug pad is the secret ingredient to maintaining your rug’s appearance and longevity. Width-wise, you’ll want to trim your rug pad so it’s 1-2” shorter than your rug on all four sides. Height-wise, we offer two premium rug pad options, both made of cozy recycled felt and natural rubber.

Hand-tufted washable wool rug

  • 100% New Zealand wool with natural latex-sealed back
  • Low pile: approximately .2" thick (5mm)
  • Color palette: terracotta, faded brick, dark dusty rose pink
  • This piece can be thrown in the washer! Click the Care tab to learn more.
  • Shedding is typical for most rugs for the first 6-9 months. The shedding quantity and duration varies by material, weave, and foot traffic.
  • Machine washable, line dry
  • Rug pad highly recommended for comfort, stability, and longevity
  • Due to its handmade nature a 5% variance in size, color and texture is to be expected
  • Clean on low power with a non-rotary vacuum or suction attachment (no spinning brush) only
  • Lightly vacuum the rug once a week
  • Use a high-quality rug pad to absorb shock and reduce damage
  • When it's time for a deeper clean, machine wash your rug with like colors on delicate with 1 TBSP of gentle detergent. Line dry afterwards.
  • For sizes 5' x 8', we recommend using a 60-lb (8cu ft) washing machine, for sizes 6' x 9' and 8' x 10', we recommend an 80lb (11.5cu ft) washing machine. These larger sizes require a commercial washing machine, the kind you'd find at a laundromat rather than a home washing machine, which tends to hold 20-25 lbs.
  • For sizes 9'x12' and above, spot or dry clean.
  • Be sure to wash rugs according to their recommended washing machine size capacity. Please note: failure to adhere to size recommendations could result in damage to your machine.
  • The first few times you wash your rug, there will be some fluff left in the washing machine. Don't be alarmed; this will lessen and ultimately stop. The yarn continues to open after washing, making the rug fluffier with time.
  • A slight shrinkage of up to 5% can be expected for all washable rugs
  • Light shedding, matting, and signs of fiber or thread breakage may occur over time, depending on the material and weave. In high-traffic areas, these effects may appear more quickly.
  • Spot cleaning instructions:
    • Lightly dampen a paper towel or cloth with clean water
    • Gently blot the affected area with your damp towel or cloth to dilute the stain
    • If the stain persists, try using an unscented, citrus-free, clear soap to avoid bleaching the textile.
    • Repeat this process until the stain is removed
  • From time to time you may spot tiny flecks of dried hay or grass woven within the fibers-traces of the grazing pastures where the sheep once roamed. These can be removed by hand or with tweezers.
  • Because this rug is made from natural wool rich in lanolin, it may release a subtle sheep-like scent when damp. It's simply the fiber's natural character, and it will disappear once dry.

The Collection

Our washable Edge Collection is an exploration of duality. Designers used pools of color accented by abstract borders to depict serenity on the inside with playfulness on the outside. Made with extra soft New Zealand wool, Edge's innovative construction makes it easy to wash and spot clean.

The Design

Named for its dynamic frame detail, this washable rug features rich, vibrant colors with a cut-pile ground. Its design plays with spatial movement, creating entryways into the rug through broken borders. Rosa's warm duotone palette features earthy terracotta with a pink border accent.

The Material

Washable wool rugs with a soft, satisfying footfall and pleasing weight, Edge is made with 100% New Zealand wool for supreme softness and durability. New Zealand wool is a premium wool beloved for its softness and long fibers. Its natural lanolin makes it soft and shiny, protecting it from shedding and dirt.

The Maker

We partnered with a small, family-run weaving house. They're Craftmark-certified, which means they meet stringent national standards for socially responsible handmade products. Many of their weavers have been with them for as long as 30 years. To visit their factory is to be steeped in its personal history, from the walls of photographs honoring their lineage, to the majestic, hundred-year-old timber looms they still use today.

The Designer

Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
